New book invites readers to see the Bible as a historical book and discover ‘New Light on Old Truths’
William Edward Henley II, MDiv, offers bite-size wisdom to help others gain deeper understanding of who God is
This book is a “Discovery Channel” style of looking at the Bible. It is a collection of different works — blogs, research papers, sermons and a devotional — that addresses some actions/beliefs of the church and the Christian body that do not match up with the Bible. Here, the author discusses modern-day issues such as how the church treats the LGBTQ+ community, supports women in ministry roles, fighting between churches and denominations, and Christians acting out of judgement instead of love. He also shares his testimony on encountering God, and teaches others how to hear God’s voice.
“Many people in the church have started believing things that are not Biblical, which impacts their actions and thoughts,” Henley states. “I encourage people to look back at the Bible, and see it as a historical book, about real people and places. This in turn causes us to see things in a new light, brings the Bible alive in a new way, and brings us closer to God.”
“New Light on Old Truths” appeals to the layperson and the academic, bringing both back to the Bible. It aims to encourage the layperson to pay more attention to theology, and urge the academic to focus more on what the Bible says rather than what secular and atheist theologians came up with centuries ago.
