The Humble “Start”

Well, today is the first of what I hope will be many blogs that I am going to write for the Modern Faith Unlimited website.  In being that I had an opportunity to check out the website firsthand a few weeks ago and see what I could do to be a part of that aspect of what myself and William Henley II are accomplishing through the site and podcast that we are doing together, I wanted to use the aspect of what is available on the site to contribute another aspect of my life in writing.

For this debut blog, I was thinking about what I wanted the first subject to be about, and also how biblically I can use the certain subject to interact with anybody’s crossroad between faith and life in the process.  At first, it would seem challenging, and then I decided since I am starting this blog today, there is an obvious first subject that was staring right in front of me.

Simply “starting”.

Plain and simple, if there is anything that anybody wants accomplish in life, regardless of what discipline, or direction they want to go with.  The first thing that anyone needs to do is to simply stop the laziness and start the process with the “first step”.  There is 100% truth and fact in the term “You need to start somewhere”, and to begin any matter takes much courage and discipline in any type of mission for that person.

So in trying to biblically look at the subject of “starting” in general, regardless of what we are starting the journey to accomplish in our lives, I did not want to do this regarding any particular discipline or activity, for the glory of Christ or in a more secular role, but I wanted to find scripture in God’s word that will show the blessing that our heavenly father gives for taking that first step faithfully and with due diligence.

First off, to anyone that is reading this, please do not forget that God blesses any first faithful step that we take:

But if you will seek God earnestly
and plead with the Almighty,

if you are pure and upright,
even now he will rouse himself on your behalf
and restore you to your prosperous state.

Your beginnings will seem humble,
so prosperous will your future be.

Job 8:5-7

Let’s face it, humble beginnings are a part of life, period.  I know that everyone wants the quick results a.s.a.p. type of process when it comes to future accomplishments.  But, as we read in the above passage in the book of Job, the steadfast mindset of anyone, but especially to those that know Christ as their Savior and Lord, will receive gracious amounts of favor even in the humble beginnings even though we can’t see it on the outside and in the immediate realm of reality.

There was a time when I was younger when I was in the Boy Scouts, and everyone was required to have a copy of the Boy Scout Handbook (which I still own today).  There is a particular section that talks about rank and diligence in accomplishing goals and progress towards becoming an Eagle Scout.  In one particular passage of that section, it gives a question and answer type saying that describes how to “eat an elephant” which describes that term as any process or task which we might see to the naked eye as too great or mighty for us to attain. In those circumstances, the Scouting Handbook then gives the simplest of answers that we can do to defeat any great task, “One bite at a time”!

Then afterward, in the middle of our steadfast process, God will honor our due diligence:

The lazy do not roast  any game,
but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.

Proverbs 12:27

The best example I can see of following this type of progress in the process is a high-class athlete that has to deal with a career-threatening injury that could halt their playing career.  I have seen and met athletes first hand that has gone through injuries that have put them back at square one at the very bottom of the athletic totem pole.  The grind that these gifted people have to go through just to become 100 percent healthy and to be fully capable of performing again on their particular playing field is not for any type of slothfulness to be involved with.  Due diligence is key in partaking anything that resembles any goal in mind.

Finally, our father in heaven will reward any goal that starts small and strive to accomplish the task at hand:

But as for you, be strong and do not give up,

for your work will be rewarded.

2 Chronicles 15:7

Please if you are reading this, rest assured that even in the humble and small beginning, through a steadfast process, God sees hard work firsthand and is guaranteed to reward any process that reaches the finish line.  Relating to what myself and Mr. Henley want to accomplish through this blog, web show, and podcast, we both can sense the humbleness that we share in coming together in this outlet of faith, in relation, especially in the body of Christ, humbleness is a great lesson learning procedure anyone can use when we first take that step of faith that might seem gigantic to anybody that takes it.

Starting is a big accomplishment for any task.  That is the first battle that has already been won from the enemy who always wants us to be defeated, lazy and uninspired.  The bottom line is our heavenly father, never intended his children to live lives unaccomplished, but on the contrary with a spirit of vigor, excellence, and accomplishment in any field that requires a tough task.  Biblically, all believers through the power of the Holy Spirit are given that chance to attain greatness, when we take that first step.
